I personally enjoyed the fact that the world felt a bit timeless and unknown; it lets the reader fill in the gaps while also letting the story focus on what is really important. (less)

It feels as if the main character an immigrant in a cosmopolitan city (Eastern European in Toronto, New York, London). Given its fairy tale qualities, I am not sure it is meant to be taken as set anywhere. (less)
