I'm writing a paper on female sexuality + the role of the housewife for art acadamy. I choose this book as a source, but I have troubles finding a good part. I read chapter 12 and 16 but I'm not happy with it and actually quite annoyed. (I think) Im a feminist but De Beauvoir just seems very bitter to me. It was written in 1949 but I find it hard to believe that what she writes is true. Anyone any thoughts/proposals?

Liz For goodness sake, read the whole book! The chapters are cohesive and not intended as separate items.

I'm having a hard time comprehending this book. It's the first book I've tried to read like this. I rarely read anything besides fiction and am an avid reader. But this just has too many words I don't know and the way it's written is really hard for me to comprehend. Anyone have a recommendation of a similar book that is an easier read?

If you just want to get a sense of some feminist thinking I'd start with essays by Andrea Dworkin or Audre Lorde (not that either of them is "like" Simone De Beauvoir or like each other, but no two feminists have exactly the same philosophy)(less)

Hej! Jag håller i en feministisk bokklubb där vi just ni läser "Det andra könet". Vi träffas den sista lördagen av varje månad över en kaffe och diskuterar tankar och reflektioner. Having trouble figuring out if it's possible to find it in two volumes in English? I have a copy out from the library and just the physical weight of an 800 page book is intimidating.
