I think you gain more empathy and a much better understanding of autism through his stories. Yes, his family was dysfunctional and at the time there wasn’t much information on autism and was mistreated but I could say the same for my son to some extent. The author does a good job of describing how and why he reacted to situations. It isn’t usually obvious to the “Autism Family” at least it wasn’t for me. My son was diagnosed less than 6 months ago at the age of 16 and I found the book very helpful. (less)

It includes four letter words, including the "f" word, descriptions of the band, Kiss's, antics with women (not graphic), and talks about drug use (not by the author, he is very opposed to that). The author also discusses some pranks he did....some of them are troubling, and I wouldn't want any kids I know to be influenced. That being said, it's an inspiring story of how one can work hard and rise above bad family circumstances and difficulties coping with Asperberger's and lead a meaningful, satisfying life.(less)
