I loved it, and "got it" although I was a bit mixed up about geography and a little surprised at how characters and past events were mentioned with so little explanation, (which I figured was just the style of storytelling). After I read The Thief, I realized how much The Queen was referring to and building on The Thief. Also, reading them out of order removes the element of surprise at the end of The Thief.(less)

Furthermore, each book has a different narrator, and after the first three books, the main character changes, each with their own story.

It is worth mentioning, however, that the first two books, at least, end in surprises that are followed up in the next book. While they aren't necessarily cliffhangers, they may be enough to force your curiosity into reading the next book.(less)

I never reread books, and I never read long journey books, but this is an exception to both of those.(less)
