I like to think of my "series" as a community in 1870s London, and with each book, I pluck a different person out and tell her story. But there are overlapping characters. Inspector Matthew Hallam appears as the brother of the protagonist (Nell, a pianist) in A Dangerous Duet; in A Trace of Deceit, he's one of the two main characters.
