It has never taken me so long to read a book in my life. I've come here to get some moral support because there are still a few pages to go. I'm hoping there will be some point to it all - but just can't be bothered just now. SO dull. Does anything happen?

I listened to the audiobook, read by Dennis Boutsikaris -- excellent! That might have been part of why I was able to tolerate the slow beginning (okay, and middle) and stick with it. He portrays Von Tessol (sp?) perfectly.
I'm now reading Stella Bain, and yes, again -- so very glad I stuck with All He Ever Wanted. (less)

I just finished reading Stella Bain by Anita Shreve where the main character was named Etna Bliss. However, now that I’m looking for another book to read by same author, and as I read the reviews on All He Ever Wanted, I see that Etna Bliss is a character in this book as well but there is not any mention of All He Ever Wanted being a sequel. Does anyone know if this book is a continuation of Stella Bain?

Didn't read all the comments, but I began this book believing it was the counterpoint to Etna Bliss Van Tassel's story in Stella Bain. Characters are the same, but the time after "the event" that caused Etna to leave for Europe is entirely different between the two books. I can't decide if both books describe the time after the event as the truth they have created for themselves, or were not meant to correlate?

Does anyone know if this book is a continuation of Stella Bain by Shreve? Etna Bliss was the name of the main character and I see that she is also a character in All He Ever Wanted.
