What language are Ricard and Kasia speaking in Germany? Is he supposedly fluent in German. He seems to be speaking directly to everyone and it doesn't seem realistic. I have enjoyed all the previous books, but this one does not ring true.

As Americans, most of us only speak English, because that is all we have to speak. Europeans tend to speak several languages.
