I just read this book in the last three days, took the exam and passed it with no training course. I think the answer to this depends upon your experience in IT management. I've been a CIO for the last 20 years so the concepts in the book are definitely already in my experience. And I've read other ITIL books in the past. So, if you have this type of experience, this book should be sufficient. If not, the book does not provide enough to help someone make the connection between the terminology used in the book and the language of most IT people. There is one free practice exam available at www.axelos.com, so if you read the book and do well with the practice exam, you'll know you don't need to spend the time and money to take a course.(less)
