I really did not enjoy book 2 and gave up on it (boring plot, dumb romance, overuse of rape). Is this one better? Should I keep going with the series? (loved book 1)

Boristhespider1003 Unfortunately there are a couple of rape scenes in this one

I am currently in Chapter 39 and have been confused for about 3 chapters re where Kahlan & Adie, & the Prelate are and what's going on. Who is where? Am I just not remembering earlier bits, or do these chapters lack what a movie would call "Establishing Shots", i.e. a little exposition to reorient me as the scene shifts? Am I alone in this?
