Can anybody recommend some good books based on the STYLE of this book, and not just more vampires or more Anne Rice? I love the descriptive, dark and sensual (as in it engages the senses, not as in sex scenes) historical fiction. Ancient Egypt. The story of the twins. That gorgeous mansion built into the mountain! I love the vampires too, don't get me wrong. But it's not as important as the writing style.

Do I need to have the first 2 chronicles to be able to follow/enjoy this one? I am considering the challenge of reading the top 10 books from the year I was born (1988) and The Queen of the Damned features on that list so I just want to know if I need to read the others first? Thanks in advance

I have noted one particularly favourable comment on this book and I like it very much - while at the same time finding it tedious that the main protagonist seems to change with each chapter - am I missing something HERE - so many of the notes about the film that was made have no application to me I am deaf I need Subtitles - the distributor of the film does not give - plus ça change n'est ce pas ??????
