There's a scene early in the book where an actress is sexually assaulted which in my opinion was a bit too graphic. In addition I don't think this book would hold the attention of a young teen. The pace is very slow and the content is just more geared to adults. As Ramona noted in her comments below, there are so many good books out there to read.(less)

Premise-wise these books are similar, but "Society" is set in the mid-40's and is about conservationist society not a book club(less)

Does this book spoil the plots/endings of any of Jane Austen's books? I've already read Pride and Prejudice so I wouldn't mind those spoilers. I'm just trying to figure out if I should save this until I've read all of Austen's other works.

Futhermore, I truly believe you will get a lot more out of the story if you already know all the references. Throughout the book, the author mentions several characters and events that add so much to the narrative and I believe it would be detrimental to your reading experience if you did not previously know about them.
So I would definitely recommend you finish all of Austen's books before diving into this one. :)(less)

Although I had read some Jane Austen and seen some of the movies I hadn't thought much about them but having read the Jane Austen Society - I have now gone back and am reading all of her books with great delight. So at some point I may come back and re-read this wonderful book. Has anyone else had this experience? This novel motivating them to read Jane Austen?

Trogium Pulsatorium I don’t think you are alone in this. I’ve seen the movies but I’ve never read her books before. I feel like I need to now after reading this book.
