I thought I was nuts but turns out there is an error in the book. On p. 286 -- Doris says, "Every time Carl, your uncle, wrote and pleaded...." Carl was Jenny's grandfather, not her uncle. My friend's Kindle edition says, "Carl, your grandfather..." Somehow the print edition got out with the error! Did anyone else notice this?

Our book club recently read this book and none of us had a factual answer to this question...Did Doris leave the Address book in New York with her things and then it was returned to her later on? If not did she have it on her when she escaped the boat?

Has any of you thougt about the fact, that Doris didn’t bring anything with her from the ship that got bombed by the germans. How did the red book end up with her in England? Did any of you think about that?
