This question is about the story "Affection". About halfway through, there is a sentence "he [Harris]'s crushed to learn that she [Claire, who Iassume to be the wife of Harris] is married to Sarah [who I think Harris is having an affair with]." This made no sense to me. I researched this and found a photocopy of the New Yorker page where the story originally had "is married to Philip". Any thoughts on this story?

JMWB I read that paragraph as mimicking the style of synopses of TV dramas. While I agree that in the 'overall storyline', the addition of a marriage between Claire and Sarah would not make sense, I think it fits in the context of the TV drama, where partnerships come and go and intertwine at a much higher pace.(less)
