There is some discussion of slavery, incest, physical and sexual abuse but it is reflective of the time period. There is one brief romantic sex scene but it plays like a romance novel (so allusion is used rather than coarse language.) Otherwise, the book is filled with very good historical detail and a good story. This is a version of Cinderella, so best for girls, probably.(less)
