Either for fear of persecution, or spiritual pride, etc. Several reputable magicians over the centuries have approached these grimoires and attempted their own techniques to different things and the result has been that after lots of trial and error, there are other ways to approach the spirits that do not require all the fancy and show previously thought to be needed. Nowadays there are several really good books on Angels, Demons, and other spirits, that use a totally different approach (that works) than that of the old grimoires, which leads one to conclude that most of the fancy and difficulty expressed previously in those old books, was merely to deter the unworthy from even attempting anything there. Those books were written basically for those who knew how to read between the lines... I humbly hope this helps give you some clarity.(less)
