The first person narrator is an old man, sharing memories, and with them some simple wisdom. The people of Faha in his recollections of the year electricity finally arrived in the remote village, represent an image of contentment. The rest of the world was rushing forward, striving for happiness, never satisfied. Fahaens, on the other hand, especially his grandfather, were used to being forgotten, and accepted whatever happened with equanimity. Doady, the grandfather, says “this is happiness “ at one point, for no apparent reason. He is telling our young narrator that he is at peace with himself, those around him, nature, God … saying life is good, relax and appreciate each moment.(less)
