What's missing from "Sartoris" that was in "Flags In The Dust"? The reason I ask is that I am reading what I purchased as "Flags In The Dust" on my nook and it runs 329 pages (about the same length as my paperback copy of "Sartoris") and I'm seeing longer page lengths in other editions. I'm just about done with reading it so I'll know which edition I've read by finding out what was deleted. Thanks!

I do know that the opening pages are the same. Page counts are hard to come by, because Sartoris is supposed to be about 20% shorter, but the page numbers vary wildly depending on the edition. For example, my Library of America copy of Flags is only about 340 pages, but the normal hardcover is over 100 pages longer. If you bought Flags, I'm sure it's right. (less)

I love to see William Faulkner discussions here. Some have said that they are re-reading him. One positive aspect of quarantine is a chance for me to return to heavier reading. I am delving back into all of my Faulkner books, which are many, as well as my collection of critical works on him. Since I started reading Faulkner, as a young teenager I have always felt that to understand Faulkner is to know yourself ?
