Wondering why the author chose to set the story in 1987? Other than a couple references to clothing style or slang, it seemed like the decade wasn't very relevant and it could have been set in modern day. Is it because of references to the restaurants and shops in Cape Cod in that time period? Was it because the author was roughly the age of the character during that time period?
