I don't understand the beginning. Can someone explain it to me please?

I have only read about 1/8 of the book so far so I might be wrong, but I reckon the prologue was about the girl who got drug-raped, over…moreSpoiler alert!

I have only read about 1/8 of the book so far so I might be wrong, but I reckon the prologue was about the girl who got drug-raped, overdosed and died in chapter 4. Remember the mayor get called into a scene of a dead girl to arrange a clean up? I also didn't make the connection until I listened to that particular scene, which shocked me. If it wasn't for that prologue, I think she would have been just a dead girl to the reader.

Anyway, my point is that it was written in order to give us a little background into that poor girl's life. It also gives us some insight into what kind of naive, young, desperate innocents are getting smuggled and have become victims of these people.
