Shavian women were strong, had their own opinions, were not bound by men, but also had flaws (Victorian women had to be perfect). In Candida, Shaw depicts Candida as a woman who is almost always in control of the situation around her, who metaphorically wears the pants in the house, but along with this, she plays the role of the mother and the caretaker of the house. Shaw's trying to demonstrate that women can be strong, intelligent, smart, and flawed while also being mothers and caretakers. They're not confined to any one.(less)
