Does this one require you to read the previous Magic the Gathering novels, or will this be a good introduction point? I ask because I love the game, but pretty much all the novels are out of print and with this even being advertised as the first book in nearly a decade, I was wondering if it would be newcomer friendly.

It tells the story of War of the Spark specifically, which is the conclusion to the Guilds of Ravnica block. It's supposedly more or less self-contained, but it would be good to at least have a general idea of what happened in the story for Guilds of Ravnica and Ravnica Allegiance, both of which are free to read on Wizards' site.(less)
