I also adored this novel, but it feels more like "general lit" than "YA lit." While the protagonists are primarily teens for the majority of the novel, the subject matter feels like it is aimed more for an older audience, anyway. This book feels like '80s nostalgia, which reaches for an older audience and/or a younger audience that really likes to watch old '80s movies (which was definitely me in high school, but I'm not sure if that was normal even then, let alone now).(less)

She's a poor scholarship student who's tired of being the "poor" girl. She thinks by being with the rich girls some of their traits will rub off. Remember too that this book was set in the "Greed is Good" 1980s. Abby wants to be like the rich kids. This mindset backfires on her though, when she becomes the suspect and scapegoat for all of Gretchen's misdeeds.(less)

On page 222, Abby’s parents are speaking with Major, and Mrs. Rivers is twice referred to as Mrs. Lang in that scene. On page 315, the author writes, “Gretchen’s mom was crying and Mrs. Lang’s jaw was clenched...” when the author meant Mr. Lang and his clenched jaw. Sloppy Copyediting!(less)
