Her husband seems to be "long-lost" and Mrs Chowdhury holds out hope that she may return someday. She is a bit free in her ways (she brings whisky to a party) but she is also very naive and protective and controlling of her daughter. She truly seems unaware of the war occurring around here, sort of stuck in time. (less)
