As Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse puts it, the core effort of Buddhism isn't to believe but to find the truth. If you know something is true, you can forget about believing. If I know the sun is shining, I don't have to believe it's shining, or have faith that it's shining, I simply know it's shining. As he says in the book, if a Buddhist discovered that one of the fundamental tenets were untrue, he'd (she'd) simply change the tenet.(less)
