Can anyone explain the ending to me? I thought the book was really well written and raised some important points, but I confess I found the ending very puzzling.

Is THE RELUCTANT FUNDAMENTALIST a novel which the author Mohsin Hamid intended to use simply to provoke thought or is Changez a sock puppet for Hamid's own opinions which, by my reckoning, hang on the edge of radicalized activist hatred towards the US hegemony in the world?
