I'm halfway through the book and I have a question on the promotion subplot. Are there rules in the Garda that regulate in which cases people in leadership roles are allowed to have family members on their teams? I feel like you wouldn't want a person to be their partner's boss. There's rules against it in the public service where I live, so the way the Ray/Laura-thing is handled seems very off to me.

Barbara I agree, even in the public sector I have seen different reporting lines applied to ensure this did not happen - conflict of interest.
