I finished this book over a week ago, and it's STILL driving me nuts - what the heck is "deliziosi" supposed to mean?! I get that it's Italian for delicious. But they refer frequently to Doris and her "deliziosi" and I don't know if I'm supposed to understand what that means. Is it just some lady and a pack of handsome Italian men? Do they ever explain why this woman has her own pack of handsome Italian men?

It is mentioned early on that Valéry only knows two kinds of creatures, the "deliziosi" and the "spaventosi" (the scary ones). Her houseguests and dogs are allo "deliziosi", everybody else is "spaventosi" - at least until proven otherwise.(less)
