This may be an odd question, but would this book be appropriate for someone whose health is declining and unlikely to significantly improve? I'd love to send it as a gift but I also don't want to make them sad.

Cancer and sickness is just another change, just another journey. It is important to hold onto your center during that time, and plot out how you want to face this particular mountain. That being said, some people will appreciate this as a centering book - other people simply need someone to watch a movie with them and hold their hand. If they are in need of centering and inspiration, and ready to accept it, this may be the book for them. If they're in pain and denial - go with them to a shitty Jennifer Aniston movie and don't say a word - just hold their hand. xo(less)
