Aurora Rising did have jokes that I considered to be immature (and entertaining nonetheless), but I haven't seen much of this in The Other Side of the Sky. It's more complex and mature within the writing, while still holding that wonderful imagery Amie Kaufman uses in her books.(less)

I would say they're not similar in writing style (other than being dual perspective) but are somewhat similar in story aspects. For example: the mix of fantasy and science fiction elements, the strong deity mythology and religious aspects, and the misunderstood/forgotten history between two divergent societies.(less)
