Content warnings for child soldiers, brutality (in the context of fighting), torture (in the context of questioning under duress). The author has described this as Gundam in Nigeria and has used historical events of the civil war between Nigeria and Biafra as the inspiration for the war and setting for the story. He has also used his mother and family’s experiences as Igbo who were present during the war as inspiration for what some of the characters experience from the effects of living during wartime. Exercise with caution but a very worthy read to raise awareness of this period in history. (less)
