My one concern w reading this is the amount of description involved with what happened inside the camp. I don't try to be naive, I just have a hard time reading about them b/c I get upset and can't stop thinking about it for days. The inability to read about man's cruelness to one another started once I had a child. So, can anyone say if there are any scenes that might be upsetting?

You already know--or should--that there were gas "showers" and crematoriums, You will appreciate the work of the resistance, the courage, strength, and dignity displayed in desperate situations.

i haven't anything of this genre would it be right to start with this one ?

Emily Murphy I would start with The Nightingale or All the Light You Cannot See. They are not quite as heavy as this one. This book is excellent, but intense.

Very touchy question, I hope that those who answer will understand me: I am very sensitive to "Holocaust Exploitation Lit" (for lack of a better way): using the plight of Jews in the Holocaust to sell some historically illogical, melodramatic story. The fact about "escaped the Warsaw Ghetto" rings that alarm in my head, but it has so many good reviews I want to consider. How did you feel?

The book really focuses on a small set of characters and the mission one of them is tasked to complete. I found it to be an excellent book. I would recommend you try it out and see what you think. I found it hard to take a break from listening to the audiobook.(less)

Apologies for a digression, but, here's yet another holocaust account that makes one wish Oppenheimer's boys weren't a full year+behind schedule before they delivered early in '45... there might've been more options to shorten the war & save many thousands otherwise. I've read where some months in 1944 were the highest ever in slaughter/murder rates in the camps....Is it not so?
