The first sonnet Barnaby has to learn is, 'When, in disgrace with fortune and men's eyes, Haply I think on thee'. Martine, along with his grandparents, will have faith and belief in him no matter what, and this is why, at the end of the book, when he finally comes to understand what Martine really means to him, Barnaby says to her, "Haply I think on thee".(less)
