The author’s note is incorrect. While she used American spelling there were British terminologies throughout. Why bother with the disclaimer? Americans may have sex on the hood of a car but not the bonnet, we don’t live in flats etc. what this author should have done was translated anything other than an Italian endearment so the readers would be privy to things being said. I can read Italian.
