Endymion occurs some 200 or so years after Fall of Hyperion and the world is heavily affected by the events in the Hyperion books. I probably read Endymion a year after reading Hyperion and I was able to pick up on all the references made to the Hyperion books just fine. So, lots of connections yes but I actually suggest taking a break between the books so that you can draw it out for as long as possible. Once you've read Rise of Endymion, that's it :((less)
