In regards to marital relations between Juror C-2 and husband, the author said, "It slayed her." I understand what "slay" means but I'm having a hard time trying to put this phrase in context. It slayed her (like it figuratively killed her)? Or it slayed her (like it was so amazing it brought down the house)?

I finally decided to interpret it to mean that, although their "marital relations" had changed physically due to the husband's advanced age (he was 86 and she was 52), the emotion behind the act continued to have a profound impact on her, specifically when she thought about his life force that continued to seek out intimacy with her, and that was when she felt "slayed." From the book's cover there is a hint that......'public outrage is growing at a jury that seems to have convicted the wrong twin". I either am terribly confused, or fell asleep at a critical moment in this novel (which I liked very much). My confusion.........What exactly was revealed during or after the trial, that made some believe that the other twin killed the baby?
