Do these books work well as stand-alones or do they need to be read in order?

Fo…moreI personally prefer to read a series in order. However, they released them in English OUT of order so I ended up reading books 4, then 1 and now 2. For me it spoiled book 1 as I was expecting things to follow on from the one I'd read and of course, they didn't, but at that time only number 4 had been translated ! Hope this helps if you can work out what I mean !(less)
