I love this film version of the book. But who tells the story? If it is the native American who saw and raised Tristian as a child then he would be dead by the time Tristian dies other wise he would be over 100 year old. Can some one please explain this to me.

The story told in book and movie are different, so the book will not answer any questions posed by gaps or inconsistencies in the movie since they are just the byproducts of the filmmakers' "it's in the script" poetic license, whereas the book was more clearly laid out. Pet isn't One Stab's daughter. One Stab was a Cheyenne who came West with Ludlow when he left the military. Pet was a Cree who came to the ranch with her husband, Decker, so Pet's birth date says nothing about One Stab's age. One Stab appears to be a contemporary of Ludlow and Ludlow was born in 1854, if that helps. (less)
