Karl -- It would be best to read the previous book "The Pictures" first to fully understand the main characters motivations and quirks. Although there are …more-- It would be best to read the previous book "The Pictures" first to fully understand the main characters motivations and quirks. Although there are many new characters introduced in this book, there are a number of important backward references. If you are brave and intuitive then it might work as a standalone volume.
