However, it can stand alone as well as the novel takes place generations down the line from Tai Pan. I recommend reading both books, Tai Pan has such a great story or discovery, life and conquest that this book continues. (less)

I'm re-reading James Clavell's Asian saga. I thoroughly enjoy it, and I'm a big fan. One thing I noticed with Noble House (and probably with all his books) is that the long chapters are full of dialogues. Almost 70-80% of a chapter is dialogue. May be this is the reason, he could write 1000+ page novels. Did anyone else notice this style of writing?
