I actually had the idea for The Tiger at Midnight while visiting a fort on vacation. I was looking out one of the windows of the fort, wondering what image would stop a dutiful soldier in his tracks and why. In this case, it happened to be a girl who's in the wrong place at the wrong time. But why?

It was the start of Kunal and Esha and inspired the opening scene of the book! (less)
