The world's religions as they developed within the civilization timeline are examined through the lens of power and assigned characteristics. A case is made for religions like Judaism and Islam, known as 'Custodial' religions, where regents on earth (kings or prophets or religious clerics, endowed with power by the Divine) keep the power concentrated and elite, in the hands of the few. Whereas 'maverick' leaders such as Buddha and Christ, who sought to democratize power, were often met with violence, their movements sabotaged and subverted by custodial powers.(less)

I find his theories to make mor…moreHe's not only serious, he has a serious following, and I, a scholar of comparative religions, am willing to humor him. I find his theories to make more sense than anything else I've read to describe how humans ended up here, where and how we are now. There's no way for much of what Bramely speculates to be either proven or disproven, unless some new evidence suddenly emergences. However, I've read a lot of speculative literature around anthropogeny (the origins of modern humans,) and a lot of pioneering authors, and nobody hit all the questions and objections I had, particularly on the comparative religions front, like Bramely. I think so highly of his theories, in fact, that one of my novels uses his worldview.(less)
