early on in the story, Lauren's husband (through his lawyer) offered a settlement of 5 million and Lauren didn't take it, I wondered through the whole rest of the book while she said all she cared about was to be free, she would have saved a lot of grief if she had accepted, she would have had plenty for daughter's tuition and her living expenses, that didn't make sense to me? and sort of jaded the whole book for me.
