I just finished it and it is actually written for young adults and in the young adult section at our library, but also helpful for a parent wishing to learn. It presents facts, does not glorify drug use or entice with unnecessary descriptions. It does give information about each drug and the health effects, most of which are unwanted, ugly and dangerous. It is not a "just say NO" book, but seeks to present the facts from the perspective of one addict (his term) who almost didn't survive many times, and his father, knowing that just saying no is not realistic and does not prevent using. It helps the reader understand that no one wishes to become addicted or ever thinks they will be by "experimenting", that it just happens, sometimes even with a first use, especially to people with risk factors, which they also go over and I found very informative.
