I read the books years/decades ago and of course I watched the early films - but I decided to reread them in this new illustrated edition. Definitely a 'historical' feel to these early books!(less)

I took my time reading - which again indicates my lack of involvement. It may be the setting (see my review for amplification) but I find this the least successful of these first three books.

It doesn't really need saying - but be warned that it bears minimal resemblance to the (very much later) film!(less)
