Is there a Lady Mary riding to hounds, taunting her sister/mother-in-law and amazing everybody with her daring in this novel? or does that description fits "Phineas Finn" better? because according to the Schwartz translation of Anna Karenina this is the novel Anna reads on the train in 1,29, but according to Wikipedia Phineas storyline makes more sense, and I would really like to know w/o reading all those pages

Do we ever find out the reason Alice broke off her first engagement with George? I've sensed it was related to a scandal of some sort. And based on what Trollope has told us about George, I can imagine a few possibilities. But I'm half way through the book and can't recall reading anything that explains what specifically factored into Alice's decision to end her first engagement with her cousin George.
