Is the Quentin Compson in this the same as the one in The Sound and the Fury?

Laduke Ely Yes, he is. Pretty sure Faulkner has a few more characters that appear and reappear throughout the Yoknapatawpha novels.

I want to read Faulkner's novels but feel as though Absalom, Absalom! wouldn't be a good one to start with because it sounds so complex. Which Faulkner novel should I start with, as I eventually do want to read Absalom Absalom!?

The Unvanquished, which is Faulkner-lite - a collection of connected stories most originally published in The Saturday Evening Post... The Hamlet, a magnificent comedy a little easier than the dense tragedies. I'd say if you can't get into Sanctuary, try the Unvanquished, and if you can't get into either, try The Hamlet, and if you can't get into that, put him off for a year or so (less)
