Not appropriate for kids. It's about an illicit love affair between man and beast, pitting nature against nurture. I tried to read this to my little broth and he started bawling because of the subconscious. Despite the format, this is an ADULT BOOK!!! When will people stop reading this to kids?

That's a part of why I think this book is so important. Kids need to be taught that giving until you're gone isn't love and that you'll never get anything in return.(less)

Is this book truly misguided in its message, or do you think it is actually a commentary on how codependency robs you of almost everything that you are? I feel as though it may have been the latter, but I'm not sure because of the time period it was written in. I don't know if this issue was as widely talked about then (but admittedly I didn't grow up in the 60s so I don't know the culture of then, I'm only guessing)
