The fourth part, written from the perspective of the father, is the strongest in the book IMHO, and really ties the whole book together.(less)

Although ADHD is often associated with hyperactivity and lack of attention, it is actually a condition that involves self-regulation, both physically and emotionally. As children they can be more "sensitive" and have difficulty coping with problems, even ones that seem small to most people. They are also very impulsive and stubborn. Layla describes Amar in this way when she is searching for a book and he exhibits and described in such a way throughout the book. They are still "smart" but don't do well in school due to inability to regulate. Those with untreated ADHD often grow older and turn to drugs and alcohol as coping mechanisms and dealing with feelings of ineptitude.(less)
