But I can tell you the names of books that I was inspired by as I wrote, and which I hoped Open Me would in some way echo:

Veronica (and everything else) by Mary Gaitskill
All of Roberto Bolaño's work, especially Last Evenings On Earth and The Skating Rink
The Flamethrowers by Rachel Kushner
The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake by Aimee Bender
Jesus Saves by Darcey Steinke
Orlando by Virginia Woolf

This is an incomplete list, just what I could muster from my head at the moment. Great books all, by writers I admire.

Two wonderful novels that I've read since publishing Open Me and which I feel belong in a similar genre are Lydia Kiesling's The Golden State and Nikki Darling's Fade Into You. Thank you for asking.(less)
