I'm interested to know what type of copyright actions need to be taken to allow another author to write about one of the most beloved characters of all time who was written originally by an author now deceased. As the world's #1 fan of Lucy Maud Montgomery and all of her writings, I find it a bit disturbing that someone can write a book using someone else's characters so wonder how it is allowed?

Lucy Maud Montgomery's work has passed into public domain, and it's now legal for anyone to use her work as a basis for their own. As a fan of Montgomery's work, I'm glad to read more about the Cuthbert family and learn how these two people turned out the way they did. After all, "there is so much going on in Avonlea"!(less)

I'm curious as to the timing of this one. I was under the impression that Anne of Green Gables took place in the early 20th century, with Anne arriving to PEI around 1900-1905. In the prologue of this book, Matthew is 60 years old in 1876. I'm not sure what to make of that?

Linda Varick-cooper Anne of Green Gables was published in 1908, but set in 1876, when Anne was 11 years old, and Matthew was 60.

I'm one of the few who found Anne Of Green Gables so annoying that I couldn't force myself to finish it. But I love historical fiction. Would I enjoy this book?
